spo-comm and the Nuremberg Digital Festival – A review

On the 16th of July everything at spo-comm was about "AI AI Captain! CUDA goes artificial intelligence". The spo-comm was wrapped in the yellow color of the Nuremberg Digital Festival for the whole day. In addition to Norbert Kuperjans, from PC Partner, who led us through the impressive and interesting history of graphics cards and CUDA, Christian Bahrendt from Advertima AG was also on-site as speaker and presented their AI of the same name.

It’s Tuesday. A big "X" marks the calender at the 16th of July 2019. It wasn’t a usual Tuesday. It was Digital Festival Time at the spo-comm GmbH. Both, excitement and enthusiasm was in the air. The tools in the production hall of spo-comm were still as neatly sorted as on the day before. There was pure silence. If a screw with a metric ISO standard thread M6 (according to DIN 13-1) fell on the floor, you would’ve been able to hear it.

Jokings aside! ARRRRRR! "AI AI Captain!" was THE event. A big big thank you to everyone who visited us! For one day we dedicated ourselves to Nvidias programming technique "CUDA" as well as Artificial Intelligence as part of the Nuremberg Digital Festival.

Here is a short review of the day:

10:15 am:

The food truck arrives at spo-comm. Chana Masala and Hungarian goulash was the prediction for the lunch break. The team of razz & rübe should conjure up love in our stomachs on this day!

10:30 am:

The first participants of our event arrive.

10:45 am:

The event begins! Welcome to "AI AI Captain! CUDA goes Artificial Intelligence"! spo-comm was giving a brief introduction and a preview of the lectures of the meetup.

11:00 am:

Company founder and CEO Michael Sporrer introduces the spo-comm GmbH. Surely, one or the other previously had wondered what the Mini-PC experts actually had in common with CUDA and Artificial Intelligence. After the instructions in the services and products of spo-comm, things probably were clear. We don’t want to give the game away here, but suffice to say that it has something to do with our KUMO IV and its Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060.

11:15 am:

Showtime! Norbert Kuperjans from PC Partner takes over the scepter. Charmingly as always and with a touch of Northern German humour, we were allowed to accompany Norbert on a journey through the history of the graphics card: “From a drawing slave to supercomputing”. Quite fitting, right? We agree with you. At eye level, the technology specialist explained the audience what the cores’ job in both, CPUs and GPUs, is and why a CPU comparatively to a GPU has few cores, but also why that is alright as it is. At the heart of his lecture was Nvidia’s programming technique CUDA. Whoever missed that does not have to be sad. Similarly many endorphins as Norbert’s lecture are distributed when reading our blog article about CUDA.

##Nice to know: What is CUDA?

11:45 am:

We reached the break. Wait, did somebody say Chana Masala? YES! We were so glad that we had the guys from razz & rübe at our event. Mhhhhhhh, it was so delicious! Our participants were networking, sharing knowledge and chilling under the sun. There aren’t many better scenarios, are there? Ok ok, you’re right. There are some. Like enjoying a cool drink on Hawaii, at the beach. But that’s it basically.

12:45 pm:

After the break we continued with Christian Bahrendt’s presentation about Artificial Intelligence and the big question about how to connect the offline- with the online-world. With some basic knowledge about CUDA and graphic cards, the listeners were initially asked the question: "What does it actually mean, when the physical space suddenly consists of data?". The Advertima AG is faced with this question like every single day. Since the Artificial Intelligence of the Swiss start-up company of the same name does exactly that: It transforms people and their environment into data. But Artificial Intelligence would not be what it is if we were talking only about rigid analysis and data-hoarding. Advertima is self-learning. The so-called "machine-learning" enables the software to develop on the basis of already analyzed data. In Advertima’s case, this means targeting and displaying advertisements for customers where they might be interested. More quality content leads to more impressions leads to more conversions. Not just an exciting topic, but also the future. Curious about more from Advertima? Check out our reference about the leading Swiss company.

13:15 pm:

The event ends. Time for networking and a few kicker matches. What a great way to start in a relaxed afternoon.

Without talking about the bush: It was a great event. Thanks to everyone who were there and made the event an unforgettable day for us. Last but not least also a big thank you to our reliable and competent event technology partner pave who ensured that everything went smooth.

spo-comm at the #nuedigital – Let's introduce our CUDA experts

As part of the Digital Festival 2019, spo-comm also participates in it for the first time as an organizer and not only as a visitor. Under the title "AI AI CAPTAIN! CUDA goes Artificial Intelligence", we dedicate half a day to CUDA programming technology and what it contributes to Artificial Intelligence. On board are Norbert Kuperjans from PC Partner and Christian Bahrendt from Advertima. Here is a small view of who we are looking forward to!

Nice to know: What is CUDA?

While launching our new Mini-PCs QUADRO P1000 and TEGRA 2 we already talked a lot about NVIDIA CUDA and the so-called CUDA cores. But what is CUDA actually?
