spo-comm was honored with the MSI IPC Award 2018!

We are looking back at a very successful year. A very big part of this we have to owe to the excellent partnership with our Taiwanese partner MSI IPC. As the highlight at the end of this thriving business year the spo-comm was honored with the “Best Partner” award 2018 at the electronica in Munich.

10 years of cooperation

The cooperation between spo-comm – located in Nuremberg – and MSI IPC, which is the Industrial-PC department of the Taiwanese hardware manufacturer Micro Star International (MSI), exists already for 10 years now.

For some time past it is usual that the spo-comm management team visits MSI IPC once a year. So this October after 14 hours of flying, a travel duration of about 18 hours and a halfway overcome jetlag due to 7 hours time difference, the long-desired meeting with the contact persons of MSI IPC took place.

Successful models remain

In such meeting there is a lot that has to be talked about. But what is definitely sure: the partnership promises a lot of new models! The spo-comm and MSI IPC are constantly working on new Mini-PCs that suit the high claims of our customers. Product series such as the BRICK, TURO, NOVA and the well-known best seller WINDBOX yet convince our customers of the high quality PCs that come out of this cooperation.

We are looking forward to continue the cooperation with MSI IPC and the new upcoming projects!

The successful models of this cooperation:

•    spo-book WINDBOX II Quad
•    spo-book WINDBOX III EVO  (NEW!)
•    spo-book NOVA Q170  (NEW!)
•    spo-book TURO Q87

This series is celebrating its 10 year anniversary soon and we would like to share the WINDBOX’s story at spo-comm with you. [description] =>

The WINDBOX: high performing professional Mini-PC

In 2008 MSI IPC (Micro Star International) presented the first system of the WINDBOX series, which was directly added to spo-comm’s sales range. The WINDBOX was designed for professional applications and had a low power consumption thanks to its metal housing and passive cooling system.

The compact design made it possible to assemble the WINDBOX with any flat screen with VESA holes by using mountings (see also “What is VESA?”). This is one of the reasons why the WINDBOX has such a multi-purpose range of applications – whether as an Embedded PC or Industrial PC, as a digital signage player or as a workstation in the logistics. All of these characteristics form the basis for the whole WINDBOX series.

From HDMI to Dual Core CPU: Technical updates for the WINDBOX

Through the years there have been several technical updates, but also design improvements of the WINDBOX series. Today the WINDBOX is up-to-date referred to its interfaces, such as HDMI or USB 3.0, and there’s even the possibility to connect with mobile networks via UMTS or LTE.

In 2010 the first Mini-PC of the series III – the WINDBOX III Advanced – was released. Using a Dual Core CPU and the first Intel HD graphics, it was now possible to complete even more demanding operations.

The easy handling, its reliability and the attractive price make the WINDBOX a success model.

The future of the WINDBOX

Together with MSI IPC we are working on further developing the WINDBOX series. We constantly keep on searching for solutions to integrate the newest features in the same built housings. We will keep you updated regarding the potential successor models.

At the moment you can find the following systems of the WINDBOX series in our range:

•    spo-book WINDBOX II QUAD (MS-9A65)
•    spo-book WINDBOX III Advanced (MS-9A75)

We present to you: The WINDBOX III EVO. With the already existing quality of the WINDBOX series that stands for a versatile application scenario, its reliability and an unbeatable price, the new model of this line convinces us, too. [description] =>

As well as the predecessor models, the WINDBOX III EVO has the measurements 300 x 196 x 30 mm and can still be mounted behind monitors or under office desks by help of the standard VESA-mountings (see also “What is VESA?”). It also has the same weight as the older models which makes it really easy to integrate the PC into already existing systems.

Improved performance and consistent WINDBOX features

Our new spo-book WINDBOX III EVO is equipped with a seventh generation Intel Core i5 processor that works with up to 3,1 Gigahertz and is supported by a RAM where you can choose up to 32GB. Thereby demanding multi monitoring is possible but also single running applications can use the CPU performance perfectly. The main feature of the WINDBOX is still the passive cooling system: Absolute silent working in places where this is totally necessary is no problem. With the wide range temperature from -10° Celsius to 50° Celsius and the completely closed metal housing, through which dust and dirt can’t reach the interior, this Mini-PC can be used for applications with difficult conditions. The high quality of the components makes sure the Embedded-PC can be used 24/7.

Interface diversity for every application field

With the large amount of video outputs the WINDBOX III EVO conquers the Digital Signage field in a new way: One DVI- and two DisplayPort-interfaces can control up to three monitors at the same time – no matter if you want to play the same or different content (see also “VGA, DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI – what’s the difference between these multimedia interfaces?”). The high claims of this application field are for sure fulfilled by this Embedded-PC: Without any delays 4K-content can be played. The standard of 1080p in the Digital-Signage field is also removed by this.

The high variety of interfaces guarantees that the WINDBOX III EVO can work together with already existing configurations. Due to two Gigabit-LAN-interfaces and an optional WiFi and Bluetooth network connections can be made, but also wireless data transfer is possible.

Equipped with 6 USB ports – four of them after the latest 3.0 standard – the Mini-PC can be connected to numerous systems and external storage media. By choosing your desired configuration the WINDBOX III EVO can be adapted to every application scenario.

No Windows 7 support

As of now, Intel and Microsoft do not longer provide a driver support for Kabylake-CPUs with Windows 7. For our customers this means that in the future we only offer support for Windows 10.

With immediate effect you can configure, test and buy our new WINDBOX III EVO on our website.

The successors are BRICK J1900 (MS-9A69) and – for even more power – BRICK i3. Both represent the third generation of the BRICK-Series. [description] =>

New dimensions and connections

The product change results in altered dimensions and connections. Instead of 43 x 195 x 135 millimeters the external dimensions of spo-book BRICK J1900 are now 55 x 200 x 155 mm. This means more room for even more ports: The new model has six instead of four COM interfaces on the front panel. The USB ports have also been expanded from four to six, one of them is of the latest 3.0 standard. In addition to two audio interfaces, a DIO port is also available now. The two LAN ports can optionally be extended to four.

Even more robust

While four gigabytes of RAM have been the maximum to be installed in BRICK NM10, the BRICK J1900 allows up to eight gigabytes. Storage is provided as usual in form of an HDD or SSDs of MLC and SLC versions. The temperature range increases from 0°C-40°C to -10°C-50°C.

Software

The choice of operating systems is now up to date. While BRICK NM10 only offered Windows 7 with 32-bit, the spo-book BRICK J1900 can be installed with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and Windows 10. Windows Embedded and Linux are also still offered. For those who still need to run an application on a 32-bit operating system, a change to BRICK J1900 won’t state a problem. Even though spo-comm does not offer this option explicitly, however, the appropriate drivers can be provided.

Price cut

The spo-book BRICK NM10 is available until the end of the year. The price of the successor BRICK J1900 has been cut. To ease the transition, we can send you a free testing sample at any time. For further questions please feel free to contact us.

The BRICK series exists since 2009 and is a joint development of spo-comm and MSI IPC. It is famous for its passive cooling and multiple COM interfaces. The Mini-PCs are mainly used in the fields of Industrial Control as well as KIOSK/POS.
