The party started with a short speech, in which Michael Sporrer reviewed the successful year 2018 and therefore made each of the employees a Christmas gift. And most importantly there was a big buffet: Goose, dumplings, caramelized pumpkin, Cordon Bleu and beetroot Carpaccio are just some of the delicious food that were offered. We are already looking forward to the next Christmas party.

Here are some impressions.

Annual spo-comm Christmas party

Ho Ho Ho! Just in time for the first weekend of Advent, spo-comm has already celebrated Christmas. CEO Michael Sporrer invited his employees to the annual Christmas party.
17 Dec 2018 Array ( [id] => 369 [title] => How was 2018? An interview with the spo-comm management [authorId] => [active] => 1 [shortDescription] => At the end of this year we want to make a slightly different review. In a small interview we asked CEO Michael Sporrer and CMO Bernd Moosmüller what was going on in 2019 and to what we can look forward to in 2019. [description] =>

spo-comm: An eventful year is coming to an end. How are you feeling about that?

Michael Sporrer: (laughs) Is it over already? Again?

Bernd Moosmüller: Anyway, we are proud of our team. We were able to implement a lot of internal and external projects this year. We put a lot of sweat and blood in it. There are also some further projects in our pipeline for the upcoming year.
Sporrer: Our team also increased!

spo-comm: That’s right, we welcomed back our Sales colleague Hülya Ergin and our Marketing colleague Julia Reinhard from their parental leave. Has this already had a positive effect on the processes of spo-comm this year?

Michael Sporrer: Indeed there were some noticeable changes. Above all, we were able to further expand our customer support and customer appointments on site. Our two account managers Martin Wiesneth and Mustafa Ergin did therefore a great job this year. They can be proud of themselves. Meanwhile there should be no place left around region of Germany that the two of us have not visited yet. This was mainly possible due to our internal reinforcement. This is what will be most memorable for me this year.

spo-comm:
Then there was a less beautiful event this year, too. Keyword "Intel’s CPU issue". What went through your mind as that made the rounds?

Bernd Moosmüller: Honestly? At first we thought that this was a joke. We would have never thought that Intel would have delivery problems at any time. Of course we instantly thought of our customers. Especially the big projects that have been running for years and rely on specific CPUs. We had to get clarification immediately.

spo-comm: Both of you flew straight to Taiwan shortly after this news in order to meet with some of our partners. Did that get you any further?

Bernd Moosmüller: (laughs) Somehow, yeah. 10,000 kilometers further east. No, but seriously. The meetings with our partners in Taiwan indeed brought us further because we once again realized that we have the right partners at our side. It was also very exciting to see that something is moving. For instance, where usually everything was traditionally tuned to Intel, people are now trying to create adequate AMD Ryzen based alternatives.

Michael Sporrer: Above all, we have already submitted generous system forecasts to our partners for the coming year a few months ago. Our goal is that our customers do not get touched by the current circumstances caused by Intel, or at least as little as possible.

spo-comm:
What can we look forward to in 2019?

Michael Sporrer: On the one hand we should mention the ISE in Amsterdam in February, where we will once again have our own booth. The focus this time is on high-end graphics and digital signage. Not only will we showcase our classics such as the WINDBOX III EVO, but also new additions such as the Nvidia based TEGRA 2 or our QUADRO P1000. When it comes to software we also have something special our customers can look forward to. Even though I might already betray too much when I say it has something to do with “monitoring”.

Bernd Moosmüller: Regionally there is also happening a lot! As big fans and regular visitors of the Nuremberg Digital Festival, we plan to become an active part in the upcoming year. If everything goes as planned, we will decide in January 2019 if we participate in it or not. In any case we will, however, introduce our new website within the first months of the new year! There is already a lot of programming happening in the background. This is something not only our customers can look forward to, but also our whole team!

spo-comm: Thank you for these insights!

How was 2018? An interview with the spo-comm management

At the end of this year we want to make a slightly different review. In a small interview we asked CEO Michael Sporrer and CMO Bernd Moosmüller what was going on in 2019 and to what we can look forward to in 2019.
19 Nov 2018 Array ( [id] => 358 [title] => What’s New? Remaining issue with Intel CPUs, AMD’s rising market share and eMMC in the IPC-field [authorId] => [active] => 1 [shortDescription] => At the end of this year we have some important topics that will attend us in the upcoming year. On one hand we want to explain the recent problems with the Intel CPUs. On the other hand we want to introduce you to AMD Ryzen and the eMMC hard disk. [description] =>

Intel’s CPU issue remains

We already mentioned the general shortage of electronic components in our last “What’s New?”-article. This affected mainly DRAM memory chips and passive components such as MLCC condensers. What complicates the whole situation now is the issue with the Intel CPUs.

In a statement Intel’s CEO announced that the company did not reckon with such a high request. As a result of this the whole electronic field is suffering from the enormous shortage of almost every sixth, seventh and eighth generation CPU. This also leads to an immense price increase.

It is still unsure how this is going to continue. We at spo-comm try to intercept the price increases in your as well as in our own self-interest. We kindly advise our customers to arrange the yet planned projects with us as soon as possible.

AMD Ryzen gains market shares

In the third quarter of 2018 AMD again gains in the field of x86-processors and therefore has more than 10 percent market share. Especially in the sector of mobile processors the company grows. Here the percentage rises for about 4.1 percentage points to almost 11%. And also considering desktop PCs AMD shows off with a market share of 13 percent.

eMMC: space-saving taught by smartphones

Where some time ago there was only the classic HDD, we nowadays have some alternatives to choose from. The most popular is the SSD (Solid State Disk). What exactly differs these two kinds of hard disks you can read in this article.

Meanwhile also “eMMC” is often talked about. But what exactly is this? eMMC stands for “Embedded Multi Media Card”. It is a storage medium that is constructed like the MMC standard. Thanks to its energy conservation, the space saving construction and the technical similarity to an SD card, the eMMC is mostly used in compact mobile devices.

Even though the storage capacity of eMMC is only 16 GB to 128 GB, the price is clearly under the price of SSDs. Comparing an eMMC and an HDD the eMMC really has its advantages in transferring 4K content.

Our latest Mini-PC the spo-book BOX N4100 that will be released next week is also equipped with a 32 GB eMMC flash memory. Due to its HDMI and DisplayPort interface the embedded PC is mostly used as a digital signage player for simple 4K applications.
