High-end at its best: Intel Core i9 incoming

The fact that Intel will introduce new Skylake and Kaby Lake CPUs for high-end PCs this summer is considered as safe. The exciting part about that: According to leaked information, an Intel Core i9 processor is to be introduced for the first time. Such a high-class model will be a little bit oversized for Mini-PCs, but we are nevertheless curious about what we can expect from the new super CPUs.

Intel AMT problem: spo-comm answers with new drivers

At the beginning of May a security hole in Intel’s Active Management Technology (AMT) was announced. This is somehow embarrassing for Intel, since the error is relatively simple, but can cause great damage. The authentication hash used to encrypt or decrypt passwords, is not checked properly, which makes it very easy to hack into a PC with AMT. New drivers for all spo-comm systems with Intel Management Engine are already available on our website.

Better Internet connection: 4G modules now available

As already announced, spo-comm has upgraded and now offers 4G modules instead of 3G for various systems. The new standard, also known as LTE (Long Term Evolution), provided higher data rated and therefore offers even faster mobile Internet. From now on the models spo-book WINDBOX III Advanced, spo-book ELIX H81 as well as the vehicle PCs spo-book MOVE N3160 and spo-book MOVE QM87 are available with 4G modules.

Internet of Things 2017: Smart cities and smart transportation

The internet of things is still one of the most discussed topics in the tech world. Curious what te trends for 2017 are? Smart transportation and smart cities – at least, this was the focus of the influential Enterprise IoT Summit, held in Texas in March. Among other things, the aim of IoT is to improve safety, reduce traffic and thus increase the quality of life. Other topics are fleet management solutions for various types of vehicles and in consequence the simplification of maintenance and service.

spo-comm goes one-stop shop: Proper cables for our Mini-PCs

From now on spo-comm offers even more accessories. In the next few weeks suitable cables for spo-comm Mini-PCs will be available. For the beginning we offer power cords for Swiss and UK as well as monitor cables (2 meters and 5 meters) for various screen outputs.

What is VESA?

The word VESA is an acronym and means “Video Electronics Standards Association”. Its name stands for an organization with the same name. This organization sets the standards for wall-, ceiling- and also display mountings.

How can I measure the VESA standard?

Which VESA standard you need can be found out very easily by measuring both horizontal and vertical distances between the screw centers at the back of the display (or PC).

Which VESA standards are there?

VESA sets three standards, because many displays and PCs have the same standardized measurements.

These are:

•    VESA MIS-D
75x75 or 100x100 mm
24-inch screen minimum

•    VESA MIS-E
200x100 and/or 200x200 mm

•    VESA MIS-F
400x200 mm; 400x400 mm; 600x200 mm; 600x400 mm; 800x400 mm
31-inch screen minimum

Which spo-books are VESA compatible?

•    spo-book ELIX H81
•    spo-book BOX N2930
•    spo-book CORE
•    spo-book MOVE N3160
•    spo-book RUGGED HM87
•    spo-book WINDBOX II Quad
•    spo-book WINDBOX III Advanced
•    spo-book NANO H110
•    spo-book BRICK J1900
•    spo-book BRICK i3
•    spo-book KUMO IV

Do you have any questions about the VESA mounting or our spo-books? Our support team will be glad to help you!

This series is celebrating its 10 year anniversary soon and we would like to share the WINDBOX’s story at spo-comm with you. [description] =>

The WINDBOX: high performing professional Mini-PC

In 2008 MSI IPC (Micro Star International) presented the first system of the WINDBOX series, which was directly added to spo-comm’s sales range. The WINDBOX was designed for professional applications and had a low power consumption thanks to its metal housing and passive cooling system.

The compact design made it possible to assemble the WINDBOX with any flat screen with VESA holes by using mountings (see also “What is VESA?”). This is one of the reasons why the WINDBOX has such a multi-purpose range of applications – whether as an Embedded PC or Industrial PC, as a digital signage player or as a workstation in the logistics. All of these characteristics form the basis for the whole WINDBOX series.

From HDMI to Dual Core CPU: Technical updates for the WINDBOX

Through the years there have been several technical updates, but also design improvements of the WINDBOX series. Today the WINDBOX is up-to-date referred to its interfaces, such as HDMI or USB 3.0, and there’s even the possibility to connect with mobile networks via UMTS or LTE.

In 2010 the first Mini-PC of the series III – the WINDBOX III Advanced – was released. Using a Dual Core CPU and the first Intel HD graphics, it was now possible to complete even more demanding operations.

The easy handling, its reliability and the attractive price make the WINDBOX a success model.

The future of the WINDBOX

Together with MSI IPC we are working on further developing the WINDBOX series. We constantly keep on searching for solutions to integrate the newest features in the same built housings. We will keep you updated regarding the potential successor models.

At the moment you can find the following systems of the WINDBOX series in our range:

•    spo-book WINDBOX II QUAD (MS-9A65)
•    spo-book WINDBOX III Advanced (MS-9A75)
