Goodbye BRICK NM10, hello BRICK J1900

Changes in the BRICK series are coming up: The spo-book BRICK NM10 (MS-9A29) is being pulled from the store (EoL). The successors are BRICK J1900 (MS-9A69) and – for even more power – BRICK i3. Both represent the third generation of the BRICK-Series.

New dimensions and connections

The product change results in altered dimensions and connections. Instead of 43 x 195 x 135 millimeters the external dimensions of spo-book BRICK J1900 are now 55 x 200 x 155 mm. This means more room for even more ports: The new model has six instead of four COM interfaces on the front panel. The USB ports have also been expanded from four to six, one of them is of the latest 3.0 standard. In addition to two audio interfaces, a DIO port is also available now. The two LAN ports can optionally be extended to four.

Even more robust

While four gigabytes of RAM have been the maximum to be installed in BRICK NM10, the BRICK J1900 allows up to eight gigabytes. Storage is provided as usual in form of an HDD or SSDs of MLC and SLC versions. The temperature range increases from 0°C-40°C to -10°C-50°C.

Software

The choice of operating systems is now up to date. While BRICK NM10 only offered Windows 7 with 32-bit, the spo-book BRICK J1900 can be installed with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and Windows 10. Windows Embedded and Linux are also still offered. For those who still need to run an application on a 32-bit operating system, a change to BRICK J1900 won’t state a problem. Even though spo-comm does not offer this option explicitly, however, the appropriate drivers can be provided.

Price cut

The spo-book BRICK NM10 is available until the end of the year. The price of the successor BRICK J1900 has been cut. To ease the transition, we can send you a free testing sample at any time. For further questions please feel free to contact us.

The BRICK series exists since 2009 and is a joint development of spo-comm and MSI IPC. It is famous for its passive cooling and multiple COM interfaces. The Mini-PCs are mainly used in the fields of Industrial Control as well as KIOSK/POS.

The latest hardware from Intel

The dual-core Broadwell CPU from Intel, which boasts a clock frequency of up to 2.1 GHz and up to 8 GB of RAM, provides enough power for even for the most demanding applications. At the same time, the spo-book BRICK i3 benefits from the low energy requirement of the Intel processor.

The embedded PC operates without fan assistance and therefore runs totally silently in conjunction with an SSD hard drive, generating no vibrations or other emissions.

New Intel Platform: Kaby Lake

With Kaby Lake Intel introduced the new and now seventh generation of processors. Like Skylake it is built on a 14nm process. With this platform the performance is to be increased by up to 12 percent. It is also possible that completely new CPU types, such as a quad-core processor with 15 Watt TDP (U-series) are going to be released. First spo-comm systems with Kaby Lake processors will be available from mid-2017.

Internet of Things for everyone: Windows IoT

With the launch of Windows IoT, the successor of Windows Embedded, Microsoft has started a new licensing model that depends on the built-in CPU. According to the hardware and applications used, Windows IoT is often the cheaper alternative to the standard operating system Windows 10.

Vehicle Computing: News from the MOVE series

An updated version of the MOVE series will go on sale, shortly. The proven features are brought up to date with the latest technology. Special current transformers and the optional battery unit are still providing smooth operation of Mini-PCs in vehicles of all kinds.

Windows 7: Now available for Skylake

spo-comm has found a solution to operate Windows 7 Professional also on industrial PCs with the latest Skylake platform. From now on new systems with processors of the sixth generation, like the spo-book CORE and the OPS player, can be ordered with the popular Microsoft operating system.
